I’m so happy that I found American Eagle Moving! They were very easy to work with and helped me find companies that fit my situation. Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a moving company cost in Hawaii?
Local island-type moving costs are generally charged by the hour, which can cost anywhere from $600-$4,000 depending on the size of your home, access, packing and distance. Interisland moving typically has additional freight (barge) and port fees in the range of $2,500-$6,500. Moving to or from the mainland to Hawaii shipping would have the cost of the ocean container but also possibly drain and storage which could be from $5,000-$12,000. The actual costs will be based on volume, date and full service needs.
Is it cheaper to use moving companies or use the PODS option?
It depends. While PODS might look like the cheaper container option, there will still be labor, ocean transport, port and drainage, shuttle movements to consider and potentially misleading communication about delivery dates and times. In a condo with an elevator and multiple delivery stops, the total cost of a full-service company move is often quite comparable to the PODS option especially when considering the C of I’s and coordination and communication regarding multiple delivery stops are factored in. You will also want to get the actual real time true door-to-door costs for your specific route!
How much does it cost to move a 2,000 sq ft house?
Local moves, within the same island, typically cost around $2,000 to $6,000+ based on packing, stairs, or distances driven. Inter-island moves typically cost around $4,000 to $9,000+ based on packing, stairs, or distance driven as well on if you include barge (or) port/transportation charges or storage fees. While not as common depending on considerations, gold standard pricing for moving to/from the Mainland-Hawai’i is between $8,000 and $18,000+. That price range varies greatly based on container size, destination accessibility, storage, and window of time from Mainland to Hawaii.
How does inter-island moving work?
Inter-island moving of household goods is typically completed by barge. Your mover will take care of the timing for pick-up on one end, delivery to the port, and then ensure timely delivery to your new home. We are happy to help you find movers who are qualified and currently moving goods between islands.
Which licenses do I need to check?
For any moves within-Hawaiʻi, you would want to look for a PUC motor carrier certificate that is active, and for moves to the Mainland, you’d want to also have the carrier with USDOT/FMCSA credentials. We get that information in profiles and quotes.
